Onstage, Pippin was a triumph of execution over material, and the same is true of this filmed version of the hit Broadway musical. One's reaction to it is very likely to depend on whether one is willing to give in to the magic of Bob Fosse's original staging (which was the basis for this David Sheehan-directed TV film).
