What a surprisingly rewarding English-made American mobster saga. The period detail is excellent and belies the low budget; amazingly, Liverpool, England substitutes for 1920s Chicago very nicely, and the costumes, automobiles, and settings seem authentic enough. The mostly British cast is precisely constructed, with excellent Americanized performances throughout.
