G is an ambitious but deeply flawed melodrama. Writer-director Christopher Scott Cherot brings the basic plot of F. Scott Fitzgerald's The Great Gatsby into the Hamptons of the 21st century, where a hip-hop producer, Summer G (a character more clearly inspired by Sean "P. Diddy" Combs than by Jay Gatsby) played by Richard T. Jones shakes up the effete locals with his loud, lavish parties.
