Michael Cera and Kat Dennings star as two lonesome teens who make a love connection as they prowl the streets of New York looking for their favorite band's secret show, as well as for their drunk friend Caroline. Norah is sick of being the doormat for her catty friend Tris, so rather than look like ...more
The iPod is the 21st Century's Choose Your Own Adventure novel. Its simple Click Wheel structure and infinite playlist possibilities permeates every facet of the cultural zeitgeist, for better or worse. Interactivity is king, and consumers want more choices. Often, it's hard to decide on what to listen to with a seemingly endless selection of songs at one's disposal, so going back to the classics proves the only solution. Similarly, Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist employs a classic storyline ...more
It's nice to see a sweet romantic comedy come together the way Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist does. The bar can be set pretty low for movies where subtext isn't part of the blueprint, and those crappy rom-coms that don't make you laugh or feel all warm and fuzzy kind of make all the other ones look bad. But Nick and Norah sets a good example for the other kids in the class, and it does so on its own merit. It doesn't make any grand, highfalutin attempts to transcend the genre, it just does ...more

To cut straight to it, this is a fun and enjoyable film, with a nice soundtrack to support it, but not overshadow it.
The brightening star of Michael Cera shines in this movie as the awkward, but quick witted Nick, who has been dating an unappreciative and manipulating Tris for 6 months. His endeavors to continue to woo her with his musical mixes no longer seem to work, but might have had an affect on Tris' friend, Norah. While, obviously focused on his withering relationship, he embarks on an evening to assist Norah with her other friend Caroline, too drunk to go it alone, while also in search of a performance by their mutual interest, "Where's Fluffy". Nick's friends and bandmates, literally push him in directions and choices, he otherwise might not take. However, his friends, who truly have his best interests in mind, understand there is a greater possibility for Nick with Norah. Throughout the night there is a see-saw of trust and learning about each other's vulnerabilities between Nick & Norah. Norah, played by Kat Dennings, shows a mature, knowledgable side, while still able to fall victim to her insecurities, brought about by Tris. As the night continues to unfold, the movie has several twists and turns that allows for it to be energetic, comedic and thoughtful. It's great to see films that can appeal to those of different interests, and rekindle those moments that all of us have shared of night's gone crazy and the beginning of relationships. This film really brings back the sensation of 80's style teen movies. Yet it also adds some flavor of reality and so it's not just about the conquest of the night, but rather that the decisions made can have deeper meaning. For Nick & Norah, their mutual admiration of music underlines a deeper understanding and appreciation of each other.
At a time where playlists can run in the thousands of songs and plenty of gigabytes due to the great diversity of music, there's choices in film which can be simple. Easily, Nick & Norah's Infinite Playlist is one of those movies that you can watch over and over again. Perhaps you can add the soundtrack as a playlist of your own. Just get the DVD when it comes out or download it from wherever you like. It's definitely worth having in your collection.
