Cozz shows everybody around the real Los Angeles on his debut full-length Cozz & Effect.
The woozy production, airy soul elements, shots, and open beats make the likes of "Dreams" feel as if they were meant to be bumped in Alonzo’s Monte Carlo during a scene in Training Day. "I’m Tha Man" remains a declarative statement, coasting forward on his robust flow, razor sharp rhyming, and slick knack for a hook. Meanwhile, "Western Ave. Slaves" featuring enimaL sees Cozz flex his storytelling muscle, spitting narratives that could very well become a West Side Illmatic. He’s that good. Even when he goes bar-for-bar with Dreamville label C.E.O. J. Cole on a remix of "Knock Tha Hustle", he stands on his own two feet as a focused, fiery, and formidable MC.
Cozz holds nothing back, which makes Cozz & Effect one of the year’s best hip-hop albums and a landmark L.A. debut.
