You don't have any of the Hollywood pretense that a lot of young artists at major labels immediately adopt upon signing a deal.
I stay home at night. I'm wearing a huge, frumpy Led Zeppelin shirt, right now! [Laughs] The side of my head is shaved [Laughs].
Your focus is on the music.
I want it to be a really good rock record. I want to be able to hang with the boys and fucking show them up [Laughs]. That's what I'm going for. Live, we're pretty crazy. We're all over the place, but musically we're pretty tight. I'm not huge on talking about myself, but we fucking rule. We think we rock…at least that's what we think [Laughs].
Going out on Warped Tour with so many bands, you have to really put on a show to get noticed.
You really have to standout, and I think we do that well. We definitely try our best to stand out. Danny will go on stage in my underwear sometimes [Laughs]. We just don't care, and that's the main thing. I guess that's the goal.
Someone's got to have attitude. Everything's gotten so sterile.
You're on the stage to entertain. Do your job. Being self important is so lame. Our motto is "No Seriousness." Everything is light, and we're doing this because it's fun, and we enjoy it. You have to enjoy it, or what's the fucking point?
How many tattoos do you have?
I have three tattoos. I have a feather on my back, and I just got that snake on my leg at the Shamrock Social club. I love it. The third is on my arm. Did you ever see the movie Willow? Remember the tattoo from it? That's it. It's my favorite movie ever. My niece, my favorite person in the world, is named Willow. She literally sings my songs. It's amazing!
Where did the band name come from?
Well, it took me like eight months to pick a name. It took forever. Finally, I was like, "Okay, what do my songs mean?" [Laughs]. My songs are like love letters. They could be put down on paper like love letters. The fact that they're coming through songs make it an Automatic Loveletter. Automatically, thank you [Laughs].
