Rainder Schaller, the organizer of Germany's annual peace-promoting, electronic music-leaning Love Parade, has announced that the fest will never be held again after the needless tragedy of this year's event in Duisburg on Saturday, July 24, where 19 people were crushed in a tunnel that lead to the festival site. It was reportedly the only entrance to the festival grounds. By Monday, authorities tallied the number of people injured to 511, with 19 of them being fatalities.
At a press conference, Schaller said, "The Love Parade has always been a joyful and peaceful party, but in the future would always be overshadowed by yesterday's events. Out of respect for the victims, their families and friends, we are going to discontinue the event in the future, and that means the end of the Love Parade." R.I.P.
Is Schaller's decision the right one in the wake of Saturday's events?
