If you are a fan of American wrestling, which has devolved into little more than testosterone-driven, male-approved soap operas, then have I got a hot tip for you, dear reader. Leave the WWE and Vince McMahon in the rear view and take a gander a Lucha VaVOOM.
What is Lucha VaVOOM, you are wondering? I will tell you. Lucha VaVOOM is a non-stop, action-packed scream-a-thon where Mexican masked wrestlers flip and fly, performing acrobatic feats as lovably absurd characters with names like Dirty Sanchez, Chupacabra and Shamu Jr. If this is not enough to get your ass off that comfy couch, complete with butt groove, then perhaps more information might entice you!
In between matches, the finest handpicked burlesque acts from around the world delight the crowds because the folks at Lucha VaVOOM like a little sexo with their violencia! Go here http://www.vimeo.com/14505616 to watch the promo video for the upcoming Halloween shows at LA's Mayan Theater, October 27 and 28. Don't say I didn't warn you, though. Enjoy.
The color commentary is handled by comedians such as Tom Kenny, Dana Gould and Blaine Capatch. Other guest commentators have included Fred Armisen, Brian Posehn, Patton Oswalt, Jeffrey Ross, Chris Hardwick, Greg Proops and Bobcat Goldthwait. That list of comedic geniuses is enough to get me off my comfy couch, complete with butt groove, to check out Lucha VaVOOM!
Lucha VaVOOM all began in August of 2003 as a one off event. But the overwhelming response convinced the organizers to do it again and again. By 2005, they were asked to be a part of the first HBO Las Vegas Comedy Festival, where they performed along side Jon Stewart, Lewis Black and Dave Chapelle. That same year they performed at the infamous Sony E3 party at Dodger Stadium, where they took the spotlight away from the Pussycat Dolls and rightfully so. The Dolls ain't got nothin' on Mexican wrestlers and comedy.
In case you're new to this whole Mexican wrestling thing and its "cultural significance," Lucha VaVOOM draws its inspiration from the bizarre world of 60's Mexican Lucha Cinema, where brave, masked wrestling crime fighters save the world from evil brains, vampires and the Bermuda Triangle, which was always with an obligatory stop at the local go-go club.
Get ready for a night filled with raucous aerial acts, Pogo-stick peelers, hula-hoop hotties, a bullpen filled with the world's best stripteasers and much more. You simply have to see it to believe it!
Get off the couch and check out Lucha VaVOOM, fat ass!
