Alexander Rybak, a 23-year-old Norwegian fiddler, won the 2009 Eurovision Song Contest in Moscow on Saturday night. Rybak's offering, "Fairytale," beat out 24 other tracks from throughout Europe, including Iceland's Yohanna and Azerbaijan's AySel & Arash in the second and third slots, respectively.
"Thank you so much, Russia. You are just great, thank you," Rybak said onstage after his win was revealed. "You are the greatest public in the world."
The last time Norway won a Eurovision contest was in 1995. Now that they've emerged at the head of the pack again, they'll host the show next year.
