Pukkelpop, the Belgian music festival that was canceled mid-fest when a sudden storm caused a stage collapse and killed five people, will return in 2012. The 27th edition of the fest will be held Aug. 16-18, 2012. That's good news! While the stage collapse was a horrific tragedy, we're glad the long-running event will be back. Music is redemptive and this collapse was a freak accident cause by Mother Nature, not lack of promoter care.
Remember what happened? Torrential winds uprooted trees and tore down two of the festival stages as well as several speakers and projection screens on the first of three days.
The storm has been ruled a natural disaster by the Belgium government, absolving festival organizers of personal accountability. However, the organizers did suffer from financial losses due to the cancelation. The organizers are offering incentives for those who purchased tickets to the canceled fest.
