LA Hootenanny? What is it? We'll tell you. It is a collection of musicians founded in 2005 at a now defunct Cajun restaurant in Silverlake. Gathering there on Thursday nights for cheap food and beer specials, the band played against an upright piano with acoustic instruments.
Through the years LA Hootenanny has moved from there to a now defunct BBQ joint (also in Silverlake) to a Mexican restaurant where they finally got kicked out because of noise complaint -- they started gradually adding amplifiers.
Now the band is resting at Villain's Tavern at 1356 Palmetto St in DTLA. The common thread has been Texas guys with a fondness for anyone who even attempts to make southern food. Oh, and Thursdays.
The lineup as it stands now is as follows:
Todd Lowe guitar, vox
Guilford Adams guitar, vox
Eric Thorne, guitar, vox
Cody Chappel, washtub bass, vox
Kevin McMullen, drums
Nick Papadakis, bass
Gerard Garcia, lead guitar
Tim LaLonde, banjo
Mars de la Mancha, lead guitar
Ben Childs, harmonica
Jason Pelsey, piano
Miranda Mulholland, fiddle
Dustin Fasching, additional vox
Jessica Littlefield, additional vox
Sally Strecker, additional vox
