Ashley Alexandra Dupré always had dreams of being famous, though she probably never envisioned it would happen to her the way it did. Unceremoniously thrust into the public spotlight due to her involvement in the prostitution scandal which brought down former NY governor Eliot Spitzer, the 22-year-old with pop star ambitions saw page views and song plays skyrocket on the MySpace page carrying her music after her identity became known to the public.
Her page has since been deleted, but before it was pulled down she'd racked up 4,612,397 views, with her song “What We Want” generating 711,334 plays. The NY Times also reports that two tracks Dupre released to the website AmieStreet.com were played thousands of times, sending their cost from an initial price point of free, up to the 98 cent maximum the priced-by-demand site charges. Rumor has it that the singer is already fielding interest from opportunistic A&R execs looking to cash in on her notoriety. Who needs American Idol, when you've got Inside Edition?
