Born and bred in the heart of suburbia, Strange Native may be guessed to be a tad bit soft and pink. While this may be true, it only adds to their quirky, indie, thrift shop-obsessed, golden boy persona. This style is paired with a sound that could win the heart of even the most stubborn Taurus or girl who shops at American Apparel and pretends she got her outfit from the Salvation Army.
Their debut single "Paper Crown" - hear it on the band's Facebook page, or below, is a force to be reckoned with. Combining surf rock vibes with precise measurements of teenage angst, Strange Native produces a track that hypnotizes. Clean drums are paralleled with cleaner vocals that have a trance-y flourish. The energy of this single is awesomely strong and hauntingly paradoxed with self-deprecating lyrics. At times its liveliness is bursting at the seems, but it consistently falls back into wonderfully washed out, slow drawls. These relaxed lapses are the highlight of "Paper Crown".
Strange Native is young and budding, so watch these guys for new releases and expect greatness.
