A revolution is taking place in music, and no, it's not because of these questions, although we'd like to think that. We have high opinions of ourselves. Amy Sciarretto invited Pledge Music's Benji Rogers to partake in a Take Aim in order to shed light on how his company is helping artists make music, with support of the financial kind from fans. Fans are rewarded for their contributions in many ways. It's a win-win, and fosters deep connection between artist and fan.
If not involved with Pledge Music, you would be:
Drinking coffee, watching ice hockey, reading a lot and spending as much time with my six-month-old daughter. I used to be in a band and we made five albums. Might make another one some time...
What is your exact role with Pledge + take us through a typical day:
Technically Founder and CEO. The CEO part reluctantly sometimes. Typical day is 7AM wake up and look after baby so her Mum can sleep for an hour. Ferry to office or first meeting by 9AM. We work in multiple time zones and so there is much video conferencing. Meetings with managers, artists, labels and publishers. Co-ordinate with teams in LA, Boston, NY, London, Germany, Holland and Spain. 15 minutes for lunch if remembered, or unless there is a meeting, Cliff Bars if not. Then afternoon A&R meeting for label, management and publishing companies. If Hockey season is on 7PM hard stop on game days. Otherwise I'll hard stop work at 8PM unless there is a show. Some nights will try and hit 2-3 shows. 6-7 a week preferred, again unless the Rangers are playing. 3 cups of coffee per day unless jetlagged in which case 4-5.
How is Pledge Music reinventing the music biz in 2012 - in 140 words or less. We're trying to be digital and Twitter-like with this question!
We help artists engage with fans whilst helping charities. We extend the release cycle and at the same time de-risk the music industry.
Why do you thinks fans respond to Pledge?
Because artists engage with them specifically using our technology. They are literally a part of the release of their favorite artist's album. Fans need things to do and our artists give them things to do and a way to share what they are doing; not just to buy. It's a win-win. They become invested in the success of their artists.
Do you have any unusual hobbies, skills or talents?
I Instagram pictures of Palettes (and so should you) because they are "like warriors" with the hash-tag #Palettelove. I refuse to drink shit coffee. I have somehow memorized hundreds of hours of movie dialogue which I try to fit into everyday conversation.
What do you think of Pledge Music? Check it out!...
