Kony 2012 appeared on the Vimeo platform – a video that not only exposed an indicted war criminal, but demonstrated the inherent role that social media has in mobilizing masses and driving awareness around social issues. But it doesn't start and end there.
However, we'd like to introduce you to another filmmaker with a keen eye for social commentary who also strives to break ground in storytelling and visual effect. His name is Eliot Rausch, and his new film, the aptly titled Limbo, follows the lives of three undocumented students living in the United States without legal status.
The powerful film will premiere at the 2012 Vimeo Festival + Awards, which will take place this June in NYC.
Rausch, the grand prize winner at the first ever Vimeo Festival + Awards in 2010, financed this film with the grant money he won at the first awards. What an effective use of his earnings.
While Vimeo neither endorses nor denies the views expressed in Eliot's film, they've always been firm advocates of filmmaking that changes public perception and pushes boundaries creatively and technically. This is a belief they'll certainly be celebrating in June at the Vimeo Festival + Awards.Watch the trailer here.
