Chris Brown was named artist of the year, favorite male pop/rock artist and favorite male soul/R&B artist at the American Music Awards in Los Angeles last night, making him 2008's biggest winner. "I'm so thankful and grateful," Brown said in a statement backstage. "I thought Coldplay should have won the (artist of the year) award, but I'll take it."
Right behind Brown in wins was Kanye West, who scooped up awards for favorite male rap/hip-hop artist and favorite rap/hip-hop album (Graduation). Instead of complaining this particular evening, West said, "It's our responsibility as musicians to keep pushing each other. We will be the new Beatles, the new Hendrix. I want to be Elvis."
The evening's performances included Miley Cyrus, Ne-Yoand Beyonce, Christina Aguilera and New Kids on the Block. For a full rundown of this year's winners and losers, head over to http://abc.go.com/primetime/ama/index?pn=winners#t=0.
