Now Jay Z, Kanye West, and Vic Mensa are the latest artists to have their album artwork used as the inspiration for Marvel covers. A new cover for Jay-Z's American Gangster has been reworked for Elektra #1; Mighty Captain Marvel #1 is based on The Life of Pablo; and Vic's There's Alot Going On inspired a new Bullseye #1 variant.
Originally intended to be a limited series, Marvel have now released over 80 Hip-Hop Variant Covers. The first collection of over 70 reworked classic album covers were released in a book earlier this year, and featured an introduction written by author and critic Ta-Nehisi Coates, who has written the screenplay for next year's Black Panther.
