Eminem did it. So did Snoop Dogg and 50 Cent. And supposedly, OutKast are still planning on getting around to it, eventually. So it's no surprise that Kanye West is joining the growing ranks of hip-hop auteurs making the leap to the big screen -- and like always, the outspoken rapper is doing it his way.
The untitled feature film, to be released by New Line Cinema, will be made up of a series of loosely connected vignettes based on Kanye's music and presenting a "multiperspective portrait of the United States." Six writers and 10-12 directors will participate in the project, which will not be a collection of music videos, producers insist.
Richard Brown, one of the film's producers, told the Hollywood Reporter, "This project will synthesize Kanye's vision with a fantastic group of filmmakers and create what will be a one-of-a-kind film experience."
Producers confirm that West will appear in the film, though his role has not yet been determined. Considering that he already played Jesus Christ on the cover of Rolling Stone, it could probably be anything.
