Wanna drop some Coinye online? You can, but not Coinye West. Wait, what?
Lawyers for rapper and self-professed genius Kanye West effectively stopped the creators of Coinye West, a new version of online cryptocurrency, from launching, forcing them to change their name at the 11th hour.
Coinye? We love it. So creative.
West's legal team filed cease-and-desist papers against the seven creators of the currency, claiming trademark infringement, since the online coins feature a cartoon likeness of Yeezy.
The legal papers claims: "Given Mr. West's wide-ranging entrepreneurial accomplishments, consumers are likely to mistakenly believe that Mr. West is the source of your services." That actually is understandable, but you'd have to be an idiot to think Coinye West is backed by Kanye West. It's a clearly just a clever pun but we totes get West's concerns.
The creators renamed the currency "Coinye" and changed their graphic and the domain name before their launch. That had to be a headache to do right before they were ready to hit to "Go" button.
Will you use Coinye online currency? Do you use Bitcoin, Litecoin, Dogecoin, or any of the other red-hot cryptocurrencies?
