The first-week numbers are in, and the people have spoken. Kanye West's ego overpowered the Vitamin Water-fueled strength of 50 Cent, in the most hyped face-off since De La Hoya-Mayweather. According to the bean counters at Soundscan, Kanye moved 957,000 units of his release, Graduation. While 50 Cent could only muster a paltry 691,000 for his album, Curtis.
In reality, both albums did exceptionally well, considering today's climate of decreased album sales. Proof that the public loves a good fight. It may also be proof that you shouldn't let your mouth write a check you're not willing to cash. In the heat of battle, 50 Cent promised to quit rapping if he was outsold by Kanye. Only time will tell if he's willing to let that check clear the bank, but considering how much money he made from the sale of Vitamin Water to Coca-Cola last year, he can afford it.
