Musically Fed Launches Second Annual Great Rock N Roll Garage Sale Auction to Fight Hunger and Food Waste
The auction will showcase a wide range of donated items. Bidders can take a slice of music history with rare memorabilia, backstage collectibles, signed apparel, used stage gear, vinyl records, tour‑related artifacts, and even unique fan experiences. Contributors include artists, bands, promoters, managers, venues, and touring professionals who have pledged items from their own collections or from events they have organized.
Founded in 2016, Musically Fed’s mission is to mobilize the music industry in the fight against hunger. The organization partners with artists, promoters, and venues nationwide to collect unused backstage meals and redirect them to community organizations such as the Salvation Army. In 2024 the nonprofit reported that it had fed hundreds of people at venues like Chase Field and had partnered with the GRAMMYs to expand its reach.
“Every concert generates excess, especially food,” said Maria Brunner, Executive Director of Musically Fed. “Our mission is to ensure that surplus food from live events reaches people facing hunger instead of ending up in landfills. This event helps raise awareness while bringing the music community together around a cause that directly impacts local communities nationwide.”
The auction will be conducted through eBay’s standard online auction format. Bidders can place bids on individual lots or purchase items immediately via “Buy It Now.” eBay will handle payment processing, shipping arrangements, and seller‑buyer communication, and Musically Fed will collect the proceeds after eBay’s transaction fees.
eBay, founded in 1995, has long served as a marketplace for collectibles and charity auctions. Its global reach and established payment infrastructure make it a practical choice for a nationwide event that draws donors from across the United States and abroad. Musically Fed will use eBay’s seller protection and buyer‑review system to ensure transparency and trust during the auction.
Food waste is a significant environmental and social issue. A 2021 United Nations Environment Programme meta‑analysis found that global food waste amounted to 931 million tonnes annually, with 26 percent of the waste coming from the food‑service sector. In the United States, the food‑service industry accounts for a large share of surplus food generated at events such as concerts. By redirecting this surplus, Musically Fed reduces the amount of edible food that would otherwise be discarded.
Funds raised through the Great Rock ‘N’ Roll Garage Sale will be allocated to several program areas. The organization will use the money to expand its logistics network for collecting and transporting surplus food, to support outreach to underserved communities, and to cover administrative costs associated with coordinating donations from industry partners. The nonprofit has previously used similar funds to establish partnerships with local food banks and to train volunteers for food‑distribution events.
The auction also highlights the growing trend of sustainability initiatives within the live‑music sector. Several high‑profile promoters and venue operators have publicly committed to reducing food waste, and Musically Fed’s partnership model provides a framework for other industry stakeholders to follow. The event’s participation by a broad spectrum of industry professionals underscores the sector’s willingness to collaborate on social impact projects.
The Great Rock ‘N’ Roll Garage Sale will open to the public on November 13 and close on November 16. All items will be listed on eBay, and the final tally of proceeds will be announced after the auction ends. Musically Fed’s leadership has confirmed that the event will continue to support the organization’s mission of feeding people in need and reducing food waste generated by live events.
