Logan Edwards Drops Debut Solo EP Belong to Someone Else and Announces Nationwide Tour
Recording the EP in a single month, Edwards employed a vintage tape machine and a 1960s talkback microphone to capture a live‑to‑tape sound that feels both intimate and raw. The standout track, “Half Asleep”, was recorded in one take and released with a visualiser directed by Lily Knowles. Its sparse arrangement lets gentle guitars and melancholic violins frame Edwards’ dry, crisp vocals, and its lo‑fi imperfections give the song an unguarded edge.
Prior to the EP’s launch, Edwards released two singles that charted on the Official Hot 20 Aotearoa Singles chart. “Isla” topped the SRN charts, while “Worry” also entered the Hot 20, building momentum for the full EP.
To celebrate the release, Edwards will headline a six‑date national tour with a full band, joined by Dunedin‑based alt‑rock artist Emily Esplin. The tour starts on 9 July in Wānaka and concludes on 24 July in Auckland, with tickets sold through Under The Radar. Setlists will feature tracks from Belong to Someone Else alongside songs from Edwards’ earlier projects.
Edwards’ shift to a solo career is a notable moment for the Aotearoa music scene. While his background in band settings—particularly with The Beatniks, a duo known for their alternative rock sound—has informed his songwriting, the EP showcases a more personal, introspective approach. The use of lo‑fi production techniques and live‑to‑tape recording reflects a broader trend of artists seeking authenticity in a digital‑first industry.
The release strategy—dropping chart‑performing singles, followed by a concise EP and a touring schedule—mirrors successful models used by other New Zealand indie acts. By securing spots on the SRN charts and the Official Hot 20, Edwards has positioned himself for further visibility on streaming platforms and radio.
The tour’s lineup, featuring Emily Esplin, underscores a collaborative spirit within the local scene. Esplin’s alt‑rock background complements Edwards’ sonic palette, and the joint performances are poised to attract fans of both artists.
In short, Logan Edwards’ Belong to Someone Else establishes him as a solo songwriter and performer, while the accompanying national tour and chart‑successful singles reinforce his growing profile in Aotearoa’s indie community. The EP’s release, visualiser, and touring plans are all confirmed and currently active.
