Girls Inc. of Carpinteria Opens New Fully-Equipped Music Room Thanks to Montecito Donors
When the first light hits the freshly finished walls of Girls Inc. of Carpinteria, a chorus of strings, drums, and keyboards waits to be discovered.
On August 2, 2026, the organization announced that its campus now includes a brand‑new music room, complete with guitars, amplifiers, a keyboard, a drum set, and a desktop computer station for virtual tutoring. The space was made possible by a generous donation from Montecito residents and the singer‑songwriters Lila and Georgia MacPhail.
The addition expands Girls Inc.’s long‑standing mission to provide girls with opportunities to learn and grow as leaders. While the center already offers STEM, literacy, and athletics programs, the new studio adds a creative arts component that will allow many girls to experience hands‑on instruction with instruments for the first time.
"I think that this room is a place where they can share [their] passion and be creative and play with each other," Georgia MacPhail said. "I think that that’s really magical, especially in a place like this, and so I hope it inspires that.” The sisters, who have performed together throughout their lives, described the donation as a way to give back to a community that has supported their musical careers.
Madeline Balser, Development Director at Girls Inc., expressed gratitude for the MacPhail family’s gift. "We are so grateful to the MacPhail family for this generous gift, and can’t wait to witness the girls develop their talents," Balser said. She added that the new studio will allow girls who have had little or no exposure to music to try instruments in a supportive, all‑girls environment.
The room contains a full range of instruments and digital tools. In addition to the physical equipment, the desktop computer station will provide access to virtual music tutoring, enabling girls to learn theory and composition online. The facility is designed to accommodate group lessons, individual practice and collaborative projects.
