At the sun‑kissed Annenberg Community Beach House, industry titan Merck Mercuriadis will take the stage as the keynote speaker for Music Tectonics 2026, a three‑day gathering slated for October 27‑29 in Santa Monica, California. The conference, themed “Grow Music, Grow Value,” will assemble executives, artists, managers, investors, publishers and technology founders to chart ways the music sector can expand its overall market.

Mercuriadis has long been a central figure in the modern music‑rights landscape. He founded Hipgnosis Songs Fund, Hipgnosis Song Management and Hipgnosis Songs Capital, each of which has invested in catalogs for high‑profile artists such as Neil Young, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Nile Rodgers, Shakira, Leonard Cohen, Jack Antonoff, Justin Bieber and Justin Timberlake. In 2024 he launched Hipgnosis Artist Partnerships, where he serves as founder and executive chairman. Earlier in his career he managed prominent acts including Elton John, Beyoncé, Guns N’ Roses and Iron Maiden.

Music Tectonics has grown this year to a three‑day format with two beachfront venues, offering a mix of panels, roundtables and networking sessions. In addition to Mercuriadis’s keynote, the agenda will cover investor trends in music technology, how artists can be activated within major social games, and whether artificial intelligence could broaden the industry’s total addressable market through new licensing and royalty models. A dedicated session will examine technology designed to increase music revenue, while label representatives will respond to pitches from music‑tech startups.

During his keynote, Mercuriadis reflected on the industry’s transformation over the past decade. "The last decade has transformed the fortunes of the music industry through systemic change in how people consume music as streaming grew from 30 million to over 800 million paid subscribers globally," he said. "The next decade will further transform the fortunes of artists, songwriters, producers and managers, without whom there is no music industry, through what will be the most significant value shift ever."

Founder Dmitri Vietze underscored the conference’s unifying goal. "This year, we want to rally everyone from top label execs to publishers to artist managers to artists and founders around a single theme: how we can work together to create a rising tide that lifts all boats," he said.

The focus on growth and collaboration comes at a time when streaming revenue continues to dominate the music economy. Industry data shows paid‑subscriber numbers have surged, and emerging technologies such as AI‑driven licensing platforms are beginning to reshape rights management and monetization. By convening stakeholders from across the value chain, Music Tectonics seeks to identify strategies that can expand revenue streams for creators and rights holders alike.

Early‑bird tickets for Music Tectonics 2026 are available through August 11, and registration details can be found on the conference website. The event promises to provide a forum for dialogue and deal‑making that could influence the next wave of music‑industry innovation.
