Amadou & Mariam are a Malian musical duo renowned for their vibrant fusion of traditional West African sounds with elements of rock, blues, and pop. Comprised of husband-and-wife team Amadou Bagayoko and Mariam Doumbia, the pair met at the Institute for the Young Blind in Bamako, Mali, where they began performing together and developing their unique musical identity. Both artists are blind, and their shared experiences have deeply influenced their music, which often carries themes of resilience, love, and social awareness.

The duo first gained popularity in West Africa during the 1980s and 1990s, releasing a series of albums that blended Malian musical traditions with contemporary influences.
