Dokken is an American heavy metal and hard rock band known for their melodic approach, technical guitar work, and prominent role in the 1980s glam metal scene. Formed in Los Angeles, California, in 1978, the band is led by vocalist Don Dokken and is closely associated with guitarist George Lynch, whose distinctive playing style helped define their sound. Their music blends heavy riffs with strong melodies, combining the intensity of metal with accessible songwriting.

The band gained recognition in the early 1980s with albums like “Breaking the Chains” (1983) and “Tooth and Nail” (1984), which featured songs such as “Alone Again” and “Into the Fire.” These releases established Dokken as a major force in the rising hard rock and metal scene, particularly on MTV, where their music videos received significant airplay.

Dokken reached their commercial peak with albums like “Under Lock and Key” (1985) and “Back for the Attack” (1987), producing hits like “In My Dreams” and “Dream Warriors,” the latter featured in the film A Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors. Their music during this period showcased a balance between melodic hooks and virtuosic guitar work.

Despite internal tensions—particularly between Don Dokken and George Lynch—the band achieved significant success before disbanding in the late 1980s. They later reunited and continued to release music and tour, maintaining a presence in the rock and metal scene.

Today, Dokken is recognized as one of the key bands of the 1980s metal era, known for their combination of melody and technical skill. Their influence can be heard in later hard rock and metal acts, and their catalog remains a staple for fans of classic heavy metal and glam metal.
