Johnny Marr is an English guitarist, songwriter, and producer widely regarded as one of the most influential guitarists in alternative rock. Born John Martin Maher on October 31, 1963, in Manchester, England, he rose to prominence in the 1980s as a founding member of The Smiths.

With The Smiths, Marr developed a distinctive guitar style characterized by jangly textures, intricate melodies, and layered arrangements. His playing on songs like “This Charming Man” and “How Soon Is Now?” helped define the sound of indie rock and set the band apart from their contemporaries.

After The Smiths disbanded, Marr went on to work with a wide range of artists and bands, including The The, Electronic (with Bernard Sumner), and Modest Mouse. These collaborations showcased his versatility across different styles of music.
