In a weekend of studio beats and boardroom insights, Ugandan gospel luminary Mungu Feni arrived in Lagos to sharpen his regional edge. From 23 to 30 June, the seven‑day Showbiz101 2026 program unfolded at the Alliance Française in Ikoyi and a nearby residential music camp, complete with professional recording studios.

Showbiz101, organized by bridgeAFRIC, carried the theme "Connecting African Creatives Globally." The agenda blended hands‑on music production with intensive workshops on the business side of music—copyright, publishing, branding, distribution, investment, wellness, and cross‑border collaboration. Organizers said the initiative was designed to address structural challenges within Africa’s creative economy, including limited industry education, weak intellectual‑property awareness, and unsustainable income models for many artists.

The program also introduced mental‑wellness support and conversations on alternative revenue streams, legal frameworks, and performance development, offering participants a holistic view of what it takes to thrive.

Feni, a rising voice in Ugandan gospel, has already carved a niche across Africa. His accolades include Artist of the Year and Best New Star Gospel Artist, and his tracks have racked up millions of streams on platforms such as Trace Gospel and TBN Africa. After the camp, he reflected, "I am grateful for the opportunity to be part of this incredible music camp. Being surrounded by amazing talent, inspiring conversations, and limitless creativity has reminded me that music truly has the power to connect people across borders. Every session is an opportunity to learn, grow, and build meaningful collaborations."

Beyond the stage, Feni runs Mungu Feni Records and the Mungu Feni Foundation, both focused on talent development and community engagement. These ventures mirror a broader trend of artists expanding into entrepreneurship and social‑impact work. He is reportedly working on two major music productions in Nigeria, each estimated to cost more than Shs300 million—one of the largest private investments by a Ugandan gospel artist in recent years.

Uganda’s music scene is in flux, driven by digital streaming platforms that both widen audiences and heighten competition. Stakeholders argue that long‑term sustainability hinges on a stronger grasp of contracts, publishing rights, branding, and investment structures. Showbiz101’s focus on business literacy and strategic positioning aligns with this emerging need.

The 2026 edition of Showbiz101, which began as a virtual platform in 2020 and moved to physical gatherings in 2023, drew over 500 participants from across Africa and the diaspora. Its blend of creative collaboration and industry education is aimed at producing global hits and fostering cross‑continental partnerships.

Today, Feni continues to build his regional profile while engaging in entrepreneurial projects. The Showbiz101 experience has reinforced his commitment to collaboration and continuous learning, positioning him for further expansion into wider African markets.
