San Leandro Drops New Single "Receive," Prepares Debut Album "Dive" for September 18 Release
“Receive” blends retro blues‑funk and soul into a groove that echoes Little Feat and the 1970s West Coast R&B sound. The song’s opening riff and laid‑back rhythm pay homage to that era while keeping a contemporary edge.
Albertoni, the keyboardist, songwriter and producer behind San Leandro, said the track materialized in about fifteen minutes of inspiration. He described it as a reflection of moments of self‑doubt and expectation, emphasizing that its authenticity stems from “spiritual and emotional” honesty rather than forced songwriting.
Albertoni’s musical roots trace back to the Chicago blues scene. Raised in Madison, Wisconsin, he learned by ear and performed in local blues clubs before touring with guitarist Toronzo Cannon. His work with Buddy Guy, appearances at the Chicago Blues Festival, and collaborations with Andy Frasco, Neal Francis, Paul Nelson and Damon Wood helped shape his sound. In 2023 he moved to Denver, where the city’s improvisational and funk‑heavy community broadened his musical vocabulary and led to a partnership with Color Red Music under the mentorship of Eddie Roberts of The New Mastersounds.
The full album “Dive” comprises eight tracks that explore renewal, illusion, conviction, vulnerability and the search for meaning. Albertoni produced the record himself, favoring complete live performances over extensive editing. The project was mixed and mastered by engineer Noam Wallenberg, known for his work with Vulfpeck, adding warmth and clarity to the final sound.
Joaquin Nava’s artwork for “Receive” complements the music’s vintage aesthetic. The single is available on all major streaming platforms, positioning it as a lead‑in to the September 18 release.
The name San Leandro honors Albertoni’s family’s California roots. Generations of his family operated a dairy farm in what is now Carson, California, and a street named Albertoni still exists there. The name also reflects his own musical journey, from Madison to Chicago to Denver.
Color Red Music, founded in Denver, has a history of supporting local artists in the lounge, funk and chill‑out genres. Its involvement with “Dive” follows a tradition of releasing music that blends vintage influences with contemporary production.
According to the press release, the single’s release is part of a broader strategy to build anticipation for the album. Albertoni hopes listeners will find personal meaning in the songs and that the music will resonate beyond the studio.
In short, “Receive” introduces the sound and themes that will define “Dive.” The album’s September 18 release on Color Red Music marks the culmination of Albertoni’s years of collaboration with blues and funk legends and his integration into Denver’s vibrant music scene.
