Dean DeLeo is an American guitarist and songwriter best known as a founding member of the rock band Stone Temple Pilots. Born in Montclair, New Jersey, and raised in California, he became a central figure in the alternative rock scene of the early 1990s. His guitar work is widely recognized for its versatility, blending elements of grunge, hard rock, classic rock, and jazz-influenced phrasing.

With Stone Temple Pilots, DeLeo helped shape the band’s signature sound on albums such as “Core” (1992) and “Purple” (1994). His playing features a mix of heavy riffs, melodic lines, and textured chord voicings, contributing to hits like “Plush,” “Interstate Love Song,” and “Vasoline.” His ability to combine groove and melody set him apart within the alternative rock movement.
