Born Brian Keith Flowers in Isleworth, England, in 1938, he became one of the most in-demand session players of his era. He is perhaps best known for performing the distinctive double bassline on Lou Reed’s “Walk on the Wild Side” (1972), where he overdubbed both upright and electric bass parts to create one of the most recognizable grooves in rock history.
