Born Andrew James Summers in Blackpool, England, he became widely recognized for his innovative guitar work, which helped define the band’s distinctive blend of rock, reggae, and new wave in the late 1970s and early 1980s.

Before joining The Police, Summers had an extensive musical background, performing with a variety of artists and bands, including a stint with The Soft Machine. His early experiences in jazz and experimental music contributed to his unique playing style and musical versatility.
